Background
With over 30 years of litigation experience, Stacey Smythe graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a bachelor of arts in Business Administration and Sociology. She received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Puget Sound School of Law in 1991, nka Seattle University School of Law. She clerked for the Honorable Karen Seinfeld in the Pierce County Superior Court during her final year of law school. The Honorable Karen Seinfeld retired as chief judge of the Washington State Court of Appeals.
Stacey was admitted to the Washington State Bar in 1991 and immediately began working in her father’s law firm at Smythe & Van Siclen located in Auburn, Washington. Later, Stacey and her father formed a partnership known as Smythe & Smythe P.S. Inc., serving the Family Law needs of King and Pierce Counties for many years. After the untimely passing of her father in 2009, Stacey continued serving family law clients as a sole practitioner in Federal Way. In 2015, Stacey relocated to Bellevue and worked for the Law Offices of Molly B. Kenny until 2019 when she joined forces and merged with a longtime friend from law school Marianne K. Jones of Jones Law Group PLLC in January 2020.
Stacey is committed to an open line of communication with her clients and recognizes the need to keep clients fully informed of all aspects of their cases. Stacey takes an information-gathering approach to the area of family law and uses the discovery process to fully address all issues in each client’s case. Her appreciation of the mediation process has enabled her to think outside the box when structuring settlements that benefit her clients beyond measure. Stacey believes there is an art to structuring the Marital Settlement Agreement that includes many subtleties Stacey addresses so that clients feel confident when beginning their new life.
In her long family law litigation career, Stacey represented both men and women, petitioners and respondents, in a wide range of Family Law Matters including divorce, child custody, third party custody, child support modification, paternity, mediation, and estate planning. Stacey focuses on helping clients understand their rights, empowering them to make decisions for themselves and protect their best interests at all stages of the legal process. Stacey was an advocate for children and strived to pursue the goals of her clients that will serve the best interest of their children.
When not working, Stacey enjoys spending time with her adult son and friends at her cabin near Roslyn, Washington where her activities include snowmobiling, trail riding on her ATVs, hiking, or just biking around town on her e-bike.
